Stainless Steel 409 Sheets is stabilized by the additions of chromium and tantalum and offers higher creep and stress rupture properties. Forging, upsetting and other hot work processes for Stainless Steel 409 Plates can be performed at 1149 Degree C to 1232 Degree C (2100 Degree F to 2250 Degree F). Stainless Steel 409 Coils is known for being workable under all common welding techniques, along with hot and cold working. Stainless Steel 409M Sheets are also advantageous for high temperature service because of their good mechanical properties. Stainless Steel 409M Plates may be welded by all commonly used fusion and resistance methods, where oxyacetylene welding is not recommended. To avoid overheating or burn-through of thinner sheets in Stainless Steel 409M Coils, higher welding speed has to be applied.
409 Stainless Steel Sheets is especially used where temperatures exceed 550 Degree F and resistance to suffixation is needed. 409 Stainless Steel Plates is an austenitic alloy stabilized by additions of columbium (plus tantalum) to reduce or prevent carbide precipitation during welding and in service at 800 Degree F /1650 Degree F (430 Degree C /900 Degree C).
